A week before the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), a constitutional petition was filed saying, "The relative evaluation of college entrance exams that cause murderous competition is clearly unconstitutional."
On the 10th, an educational civic group, "The World Without Private Education (Private Education Worries)" held a press conference in front of the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul and said, "The college relative evaluation system encourages academic competition, damaging education, happiness, sleep, and leisure rights. It violates the human rights of students.“

In this regard, a survey of 120 second-year students at Beomseo High School was conducted to find out the relevance of the relative evaluation and stress of college entrance.
▲First question: Have you ever thought about self-harm or suicide because of anxiety and depression caused by academic performance? More than half of the students answered that they had considered self-harm or suicide. Among them, 9.1% of the students also said they had made specific plans. In particular, 3.3% of the students said they had planned and even tried it.
▲Second question: Have you ever felt that you were suffering from competitive education and college entrance exams? 83.3% of the students answered yes to this question.
▲Third question: How long do you usually sleep? Do you feel that you don't have enough sleep time due to your studies?
65.8% of the students said they had less than 6 hours of sleep, 5.8% of them said they had less than 4 hours. This is far short of the recommended sleep time of 8 hours for teenagers announced by the Korean Sleep Society. In addition, 73.3% of students answered positively to the question, "Do you feel that you don't have enough sleep time due to your studies?“. It was found that studying had the greatest impact on students' lack of sleep time.
▲ Fourth question: Have you ever felt distant from a friend because you felt like a competitor?
53.3 percent of the students said yes.
▲ Fifth question: Have you ever felt guilty about the fact that you had to step on a friend to stand up?
More than half of the students responded positively to the question. It can be seen that many students feel negative emotions about academic competition due to relative evaluation.
The overheated competition for entrance exams due to the relative evaluation system has a negative impact on the mental health and human rights of many students. The nature of education should always take into account the human rights of students. I think we should have a system in which students who will lead the future of Korea can grow up happily. I hope that the problem of pain caused by competitive education in the education system of Korea will be improved as soon as possible.
